"Together we are lifelong CREST learners"

Principal's Message

Kia ora koutou

PBS has been a hive of activity and achievement over the last few weeks.  Our students have been representing us proudly in a wide range of events.

These experiences and successes are only possible thanks to the tireless work of our staff and parent volunteers. A massive thank you to everyone who has spent countless hours organising, coaching, driving, managing and mentoring our students, making these opportunities available.

Below are some of the opportunities students have experienced and achieved in recently:

  • NZ Dance – PBS achieved 5th place!
  • Artsplash events for Choir, Dance and Wearable Arts showcase
  • Tournament of Minds – PBS won the Language and Literature division!
  • Aims Games (this week in Tauranga) – in news so far, Lucie Thompson has won the  Year 7 race – breaking the current record by 20 seconds!
  • Netball finals – PBS teams achieved very well in the various grades (PBS Express 1st, PBS Galaxy 2nd, PBS Fusion 3rd!)
  • PBS has Talent! Our Year 5-8 place getters really wowed us; Emily Kaye 1st, Bailey Paton 2nd and Devin Direen 3rd
  • Kiwi Academic Competitions – results to be announced shortly, but PBS students have received two Excellences and two Merits in English, three Excellences and three Merits in Maths, and two Excellences in Science!
  • Kāpiti Coast District Libraries annual poetry competition – students of Room 11 participated and had their poems published in a book titled Āpōpō/Tomorrow
  • A mother duck and her 13 ducklings also made it across the school field, safe and sound, during the middle of the school day, on their way to the local stream 🙂

Special thanks to these staff, who have spent hours organising events and supporting these groups of students behind the scenes; David Parr, Caty Spencer, Vicki Wilson, Teresa Robertson, Jalah Davis, Hillary Houston, Jessie Webb and Bek Sutherland. You are legends!

Using Māori Language at Home

Learning another language provides many benefits including greater academic achievement, greater cognitive development, and more positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures. So, let’s give it a go and help to revitalise this unique language to Aotearoa for our tamariki. Each week our newsletter will include words or phrases that you might like to try out at your kāinga/home.

Here are some essential kupu that you may hear ia ra (everyday)

Artsplash Choir and Wearable Arts

After months of mahi, the PBS Choir and Wearable Arts students travelled to Wellington last Wednesday to participate in the Regional Artsplash Festival. This festival involved over 6000 students from around the region coming together in the Michael Fowler Centre to celebrate the arts – singing, and exhibiting their wearable creations. The 40-strong choir sang their hearts out for both the rehearsal and the evening concert, while the Wearable Artists pieced and perfected their works together before modelling them in front of the large crowd.

What an amazing experience for all our tamariki. The teachers wish to thank the
wonderful parents who came to supervise during the day! We cannot do these events without you!

Te Motu Dance Team

In the last 2 weeks our team of talented dancers have had some amazing opportunities.

Firstly, after a full day of learning with fabulous choreographers they competed at Dance NZ Made.

The following week, the group came together again to perform at Artsplash. Between rehearsal and the show, the group got a look inside rehearsals for the Te Auaha Commercial Dance Course end of year show. They were also able to rehearse at this incredible facility. The group finished the day at The Opera House in Wellington as they performed as part of Dance Splash.  They were sensational.  Their hard work and dedication as they worked together to create their choreography was fabulous.

Thank you to Caty Spencer, Teresa Robertson and the wonderful parents who supported an awesome year of dance.

Gold for Lucie: Smashing the AIMS Games Year 7 Record!

Congratulations to Lucie Thomson on her outstanding performance at the AIMS Games on Sunday!

Lucie claimed the Year 7 Girls 3km Cross Country title, finishing an incredible 27 seconds ahead of the field. Not only did she take the gold medal with a commanding lead, but she also broke the AIMS Games record, shaving nearly 20 seconds off the mark set by Daisy Ruthe in 2023.

An amazing achievement—well done, Lucie!

School Polo Shirts

Don’t forget you can purchase your school polo shirt through Kindo or with correct cash at the office.  Shirts cost $50 each and it is necessary that students have their own top for sports such as touch rugby, basketball etc.
