Our School Environment

At Paraparaumu Beach School, we strive to provide an environment that supports inclusivity, social & emotional wellbeing, and academic & physical growth. We pride ourselves on creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere, where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn and participate.

We are committed to an ongoing cycle of maintenance and improvement of our indoor and outdoor facilities, ensuring that these spaces are conducive to growth, empower-ment, and engagement.

Much of our environmental success is down to ‘people power’, under the mighty guiding hand of our fabulous Property Manager JT (John Trask).  Our staff and students all play their part in helping to keep our spaces tidy too. PBS also has an incredible PTA, which has supported many property improvements over the years with funding and hard graft.

At PBS we are proud to offer:

  • Warm and welcoming classrooms that foster belonging, comfort, and great learning
  • A large, recently refurbished hall (with kitchen and bathroom facilities) which is used extensively for learning, indoor sports, kapa haka, waiata Māori, syndicate assemblies, prize-giving and more!
  • Well-maintained adventure playgrounds, field and hard-court spaces for active break times and physical education
  • A solar-heated swimming pool (for use in Terms 1 & 4) with refreshed changing rooms (thanks to our marvellous PTA) for aquatic fun, skill development & water safety lessons
  • A large, enclosed sandpit, enjoyed by kids throughout the year
  • A thriving junior vegetable garden, encouraging hands-on learning
  • A large, vibrant library filled with books to inspire a wide range of ages and interests
  • An outdoor stage for performances, assemblies, and unforgettable events

Past Projects

We are incredibly grateful to the late Stanley Goodright for his generous support of various landscape projects around our school.  Thanks to Stan’s generosity, our tamariki have a wonderful outdoor stage on which to perform, present and play.

At events, like Matariki and school picnics, this stage comes alive with karaoke, dance and entertainment, creating community memories for us all.

Thank you Stan.

Our Awesomely Active P.T.A.

Between 2021 and 2023, our incredible PBS Parents & Teachers Association rolled up their sleeves to make impactful improvements. Their wonderful mahi resulted in the revitalisation of two essential spaces: the popular school sandpit and our swimming pool changing rooms.

These much-appreciated upgrades have created safer and more inviting spaces for our kids. We are so very grateful for the PTA’s tireless efforts in keeping our school environ- ment looking tip-top!

Current Projects

We’re thrilled to share that the repainting of our school pool is now complete! This exciting project wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our local businesses, whose contributions have been gratefully received.  Few schools have swimming pools these days due to the additional costs they incur, but as a coastal school, we have always felt strongly about maintaining this facility.  Learning how to be safe around water and developing swimming confidence is vital for our kids, who spend much of the summer at the beach and at the local river.

Thanks to the support of local businesses our PBS kids continue to make a splash!

Upcoming Projects

Looking to the future, the goal of fundraising for a covered outdoor learning area (COLA) is now in the early stages of planning.  A COLA is like a classroom without walls—designed to bring learning, play and community together in a protected, open-air space .

COLA’s are great for:

  • Weather protection: Rain or shine, COLAs provide shelter so activities can continue uninterrupted.
  • Flexible learning space: They support everything from science experiments to drama performances, giving students a refreshing change from indoor classrooms.
  • Boosts engagement: Being outdoors can spark curiosity and improve focus, especially for tamariki who thrive in active environments.
  • Multipurpose use: COLAs double as assembly areas, sports courts, lunch zones, or even community gathering spots.
  • Safety and wellbeing: They offer shade from harsh UV rays and reduce over- crowding indoors, promoting healthier, happier school days.

Watch this space!
