Kia ora koutou
The infographic below provides a snapshot of our student attendance and punctuality for Terms 1 and 2. Winter can be a tough season—these frosty mornings make it much harder to coax children out of warm beds! As we head into the final stretch of winter, it would be great to see our regular attendance climb back above 75%.
One of the simplest ways to keep children healthy and attending school is to dress them in layers. A warm jersey, jacket, beanie, and cosy socks all help to keep the winter chill at bay. Layers can easily be removed if the day warms up, and all of our classrooms are heated with heat pumps to ensure children are warm and comfortable while they’re learning.
Whilst Crocs remain popular they don’t keep socks or feet very dry. In fact, Crocs often get discarded on the sideline of high energy lunchtime games which leave kids without footwear and prone to colds. While I’m mentioning Crocs, if your kid is determined to experience success in sports, as many PBS kids are, Crocs are not enabling them to train adequately or showcase their true skills. I’ll leave that as food for thought.
Sorry, I got off track there… thank you for everything you do to support your child’s wellbeing and attendance. Please don’t hesitate to drop in to see me between Learning Conferences tomorrow, if you have any queries or items to discuss.

I have been incredibly impressed by some genuine student action recently focused on protecting our moana from rubbish. Scarlett, Addie, Alice, Jade, Kaia, Indi, and Haylee from Room 7 have formed their own environmental action group to encourage preventative measures here at PBS.
The group recently presented their concerns and proposed solutions to the Student Council, seeking their support for their initiative. They are also in the process of writing to the Mayor to ask for help to protect our local moana and beach.
It is inspiring to see our students demonstrating such leadership, initiative, and commitment to making a positive difference in our community.

Hero - Communication with Teachers through the Whānau Communication Page
Lately we have had whānau enquiring about how to reply to teachers through this page. As a parent, you can write a post, and the teacher is notified; however, you cannot comment on an existing post. The page is like a Messenger, with new posts for each message.
Using Māori Language at Home
Learning another language provides many benefits including greater academic achievement, greater cognitive development, and more positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures. So, let’s give it a go and help to revitalise this unique language to Aotearoa for our tamariki. Each week our newsletter will include words or phrases that you might like to try out at your kāinga/home.
Here are some essential kupu that you may hear ia ra (everyday)
Give these phrases a try this week.
Unuhia o hū – take off your shoes
Ka tangohia ai ki waho – take them outside
He nui taku aroha ki a koe – I love you lots
Ka nui tēnā! – That will do!
From the Student Council
Super Hero Friday is coming! Who’s your hero? Dress up as your favourite hero and bring a gold coin to help us to support the Ronald McDonald House charity. These guys are heroes in our community who help families when they need it most. They provide free accommodation when families have a child in hospital and need to stay nearby. They help with meals and other practical things as well. We’d like to give back and show them our support.
We’re also going to run a hero themed Cupcake Bake off! See our poster below for how to enter.
Girls' Footie Day Out
Last Wednesday, under beautiful blue skies, our Year 5–8 girls took to the field at Mazengarb Reserve for the annual Girls’ Footie Day Out. Organised by Capital Football and Kāpiti Primary Sports, the round-robin tournament brought together schools from across the Kāpiti Coast for a fantastic day of football.
Our teams represented Paraparaumu Beach School with pride, demonstrating impressive skills, teamwork, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. Most importantly, they embraced the opportunity to have fun, encourage one another, and enjoy being part of the game.
A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who coached, managed, and supported our teams. Your time and enthusiasm made the day possible, and we truly appreciate your commitment.
Congratulations to all of our players for a fantastic day of football—we are incredibly proud of the way you represented our school!
